WIA Youth Program

We regret to inform you that the Suncoast Workforce is unable to offer a Summer Youth Program this year due to lack of funding at the federal level. Anyone who completed a 2010 Summer Youth Program application packet will be contacted by our staff. We will continue to work with our partners in the community and seek opportunities where possible for programs to serve youth.

IN-SCHOOL YOUTH:
For youth that are 14-18 years old, in school currently and live in Manatee and Sarasota Counties, we provide services that would assist with tutoring and remediation through the following providers:

  • Manatee Technical Institute-Migrant Seasonal Farm-worker Program
  • Educational Consultants Consortium Inc.
  • Big Brother Big Sister
  • Community Haven
  • THAISE

These providers offer services as contractors with the Suncoast Workforce. Open enrollment for these programs will begin in June 2010. For more information about these services, please contact the provider.

OUT-OF-SCHOOL YOUTH:
For youth that are not presently enrolled in school, services are provided through both contract providers and directly through our One-Stop locations.

The Suncoast Workforce has partnered with the following providers as part of a pilot program to provide both remediation and Occupational Skills Training for out-of-school youth in both Manatee and Sarasota County:

  • Educational Consultants Consortium Inc.
  • Sarasota Technical Institute

These providers are not currently taking applications.

Out-of-School Youth are also serviced directly through our One-Stop locations to assist in remediation, preparing and obtaining a GED, Career Assessment, Occupational skills training and Supportive Services when available.

How to Qualify:
The first step is to complete the WIA Youth Pre-Screen application. Next you will need to attend a Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Orientation session at any one of three locations. Once you have completed these steps and submitted all requested documentation in a timely manner, you will be contacted by a Youth Career Counselor to determine eligibility and prepare to begin activities.
